Master Grower

Each year, we select leading nurseries to feature in the RHS Master Grower scheme, which acknowledges and awards recognition to specialist nurseries that use sound, skilful production methods to cultivate plants for their display and sale.

The chosen nurseries are often involved in developing new cultivars and in using specialist traditional and modern horticultural techniques.

At each of our major shows we tell the storyof one of this year’s Master Growers – explaining their journey to the show through the highs and lows of breeding and producing plants.

Malvern’s 2022 Master Grower is Pheasant Acre Plants. This established family business, run by Rob Evans, operates from nursery premises near Bridgend in South Wales. Initially the company specialised in gladioli corms and received many awards for its gladioli displays at flower shows including at RHS Chelsea Flower Show every year since first showing there in 2010.

The range was then extended to spring flowering daffodils and tulips – and later alliums. In 2012 the growing area at the nursery was substantially increased, which enabled them to increase production and further extend the range to include dahlias supplied as tubers, plug-plants and pot-grown plants.

Their premium-quality corms, bulbs, tubers and plants are sold to gardeners and exhibitors at shows and via their website pheasantacreplants.co.uk
