The Secret Escape

In 2023 at RHS Malvern Spring Festival, Jamie Langlands was a Gold Medal Winner for his Show Garden ‘The Wildlife Trusts: Wilder Spaces’.  Alongside this he also won Best Show Garden, Best Construction Award and the People’s Choice Best Show Garden Award.

‘The Secret Escape’ is a unique and enchanting hidden grove nestled within the heart of the Festival. Tucked away from the bustling show, this clandestine oasis offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and up-cycled marvels, providing visitors with a one-of-a-kind experience.

Access the garden via a Disco Polytunnel. The semi opaque structure is filled with lush greenery and houses a built-in disco ball, casting kaleidoscopic reflections. A private DJ ensures that the groove is always alive with a disco, providing an unconventional dance floor surrounded by nature.

Nestled within this feature an old, weathered boat takes centre stage, transformed into a unique platform for live performances. This intimate setting allows artists to showcase their talents, creating a magical atmosphere at the foot of the Malvern Hills.

A rustic and charming horse box converted into a stylish bar, serving an array of beverages. The surrounding area is adorned with cozy seating arrangements, inviting visitors to unwind and enjoy their drinks amidst the tranquillity of nature.

Carefully designed, this space blends seamlessly into the natural surroundings while offering a contrast of untamed wilderness and curated beauty.

The outer perimeter of the grove is intentionally left wild, with native plants and hedgerow planting creating a natural boundary. This not only adds an air of mystery but also serves as a transition, signalling the shift from the outside world to the hidden haven within.

As visitors venture deeper into the grove, they are greeted by a burst of colours and carefully cultivated plants. Diverse planting in vibrant hues provide a visual feast for the senses. The intentional contrast with the wild exterior enhances the enchanting atmosphere within.
